What Happened In Vegas Was Amazing
So it was a few moths ago when I wrote a letter to one of the top internet marketers in the world named Mark Joyner. I had just hired an employee in the Philippines and was trying to figure out the way to avoid the hype and seriously get involved in internet marketing without getting involved in the pitfalls of the MLM scams and the things that cause 98% of the people who try to make money on the internet fail. I figured the worst thing that would happen is I would not get a response back to my letter.
Well, I did get a response back to my letter. I was totally overwhelmed by the response I got back to my letter. I was invited to join a select group of internet marketers meeting in Las Vegas, NV to talk about Internet Marketing for 2010.
"Are you kidding me?"
I booked my flight and began counting the days. I left Dallas Thursday and arrived. I would meet people who would call out their names which I would recognize like John Delavera from Greece and I would basically respond with "Hi, I'm nobody. I'm from Texas" which would often get a laugh. I discovered John Delavera was a lawyer who became an internet marketer because it was more lucrative than law.
Other notable personalities I met whose names I recognized included Jeremy Gislason, EA Marcos, Morgan Westerman, Warren Whitlock, Lee Collins, Simon Leung, Mike Wesely and Donna Walsh. I felt like some of that knowledge had to rub off.
The one thing I also discovered was that of all the people at that conference not a one was involved in a vitamin program or a MLM program and they all considered MLM programs as something other than internet marketing. By definition internet marketing was the process of system development, implementation, testing, improvement and retesting to automatically do proven things over and over again to provide people with products they want or need. The products that sell best tend to be the ones that relieve pain and the business models are based on scientific and quantifiable data. Constant and never ending improvement is always being looked for in both the products and the sales processes.
To me that sounded pretty intelligent.
Yesterday Joyner had spoken about interactive marketing and how his goal was to top 1 billion in sales this year and be the first internet marketer to reach that goal. Then he closed with this amazing video from a 1999 movie starring Al Pachino.
It happened in Vegas on Saturday, February, 27, 2010 . . . but it can't stay in Vegas. I have to share it. (by the way Al Pachino uses some pretty rough language in this video) Imagine arguably the most successful internet marketer in the world revealing to his peers in a touching video the key to his success. It was a very emotional moment.
This nobody felt like somebody . . . somebody who had asked someone for some advice and realized they revealed to me the secret. This was a man who is 41 years old and will soon have sold over a billion dollars in products over the internet and attributes his success to inches. He was a special operative in the US Army and has the discipline I believe to accomplish anything he puts his mind to. Oddly enough his latest product is a mindset product called "Invincible".
I hope you find as much wisdom in this video as I did. Perhaps I went to Vegas looking for a magic formula. Perhaps I found one. I found it truly amazing.

Isn't that the truth!! One (me) cannot stand by and simply shrug off the simplicity of that truth. How often I have tried to do things my way, only to realize that I need to ask for help and there are people willing to give whatever help is needed.

Now I gotta see that movie. There is a lot of truth there. Inch-by-inch...winning/living as a team...losing/dying individually.

Good story. i believe in teamwork because without it, I can not be effective as a manager. I think however, you have to be careful about hype.

I would agree about the hype if there was a motivation for it, but there wasn't a single person in that room who had a reason to be hyped. Mark Joyner today markets a unique product that he never even brought up the entire conference. I understand he and his team go inside companies that are owned by self made millionaires and do an analysis of those company's business plans and sell blueprints for $250 a month to a pretty exclusive list of subscribers he has built up, but I got that from someone else at the conference and not from him. I found him to be very humble. He did have several of his key staff members with him. Interestingly enough one of them was a young guy in his mid twenties who was also an aspiring rock star. I had a few friendly words with him like "enjoyed your presentation" and that was about it.

I really like the analogy of Pacino's speech and internet marketing. It gets me fired up every time I hear / see that but never thought how it could apply to this.
Thanks for the add on twitter,
Howard

I have been traveling outside the USA and haven't had adequate access to the internet to blog properly, but I returned to the USA last night. I have a lot of material to blog about. I have one story that came in from David Schaub I am going to post before I get started and then get ready to hear of a new adventure. WOW!
